Bindi Irwin has announced she's taking a big break from social media after her Father's Day post ended up revealing much more than she probably intended.
It all started this weekend, when Bindi wrote a post celebrating three important fathers in her life: her father, Steve Irwin
Bindi began by praising her own father first.
Bindi wrote, "Appreciation post for the three most incredible fathers in my life. My dad, my husband and my father-in-law. My dad taught me the importance of strength when standing up for what I believe in and to have empathy for all living beings."
She continued, "My husband amazes me every day with his kind and steadfast heart, his love for our daughter is infinite. My father-in-law works tirelessly for his family and is always there with a word of encouragement. These extraordinary men inspire me and I love them so very much."
A fan then asked about Bindi's grandfather, Bob Irwin. Bob is Bindi's grandfather on her dad's side. Bindi replied that, sadly, she doesn't have much of a relationship with the celebrated naturalist and conservationist.
In fact, it sounds like Bob doesn't interact with Bindi or her family at all:
"He has returned gifts I’ve sent him after he opened them, he has ignored my correspondence and from the time I was a little girl he has ignored me, preferring to spend time doing anything else rather than being with me."
She also added that for her own health, she's had to walk away from the relationship:
"He has never said a single kind word to me personally. It breaks my heart but it is not healthy to engage in an abusive relationship."
Since leaving the comment, Bindi has announced she will be stepping back from social media for an undetermined period of time. She wrote that she'll be "taking a break from social media and most of my work in the public eye for a month to be with my beautiful daughter and my wonderful family."
Amanda French, who helped Bob Irwin write his autobiography, The Last Crocodile Hunter, has come out swinging against Bindi's claims. According to Australian publications, Amanda has said, "He has nursed me through some tough times in my life, and had my back through thick and thin."
She also adds that it's Bindi and her family who have rejected Bob:
"Unbeknownst to you, and what you know, he is suffering deeply for the loss of his family… He has done all he knows how to do and that is bury his head in the sand because that’s how he copes."
