No one believed 11-year-old Adrianna Kenebrew would ever be in the running for the Olympics.
When I found out why she even had doubters, my mind was blown…
While Adrianna competes with other young gymnasts, while she is judged with the same criteria, and treated the same by her coach — Adrianna is blind.
She reminds me a lot of Alissa Sizemore, an 8-year-old who continued to dance even after her leg was amputated!
"The judges don't judge me any different than the other girls. I'm competing on the same bar, the same beam as everyone else, and it's just a great feeling," Adrianna said.
It's clear her love of gymnastics doesn't come from dwelling on her differences but rather feeling a camaraderie and sportsmanship with her teammates.
"I never really realized until later that she cannot see," her coach said.
The little one has glaucoma and can only see shadows. When Adrianna was deemed legally blind at age 4, instead of being sad, she asked her mommy for a balance beam.
When you watch this short video of Adrianna shining, you wouldn't know that she was blind, but you'd definitely be impressed by her strength, grace, and talent.
"You see a joy in her when she's doing it, so it's like this is where she belongs," her mother said — and we tend to agree.
