As a parent, you try everything to keep your kids safe. It seems like you think of everything, but sometimes, accidents happen and mistakes are made. It's all part of being a parent, and no Mom and Dad should be vilified for making an honest mistake when they had their child's best interest in mind.
So when Mom, Alma, decided she needed to leave her 18-month old daughter and her 6-year-old son in the car for a brief moment in the family's driveway, she knew to leave the door open.
There are many horror stories of parents intentionally leaving their babies in hot cars, which can be a dangerous, even deadly, practice after just a few minutes. But Alma knew better. She thought she was doing the right thing and left her keys in the car.
But when she came back to the scene, she was shocked and horrified: Her son had accidentally locked the baby inside the car by closing the door.
The mom tried desperately to tell her daughter to open the door, but the child didn't understand.
By the time cops showed up, Alma's daughter was sweating and crying: She had been inside for about 15 minutes already.
