Boris Johnson And Fiancée Welcome Healthy Baby Just After His COVID-19 Recovery

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson just welcomed a new baby with his partner, Carrie Symonds. The 55-year-old became a father again on Wednesday. It was just two days after returning to work after a frightening battle with the coronavirus that landed him in intensive care.

Johnson's fiancée, Carrie Symonds, had also become ill, though she wasn't tested for the virus. But luckily, she gave birth to a “healthy baby boy at a London hospital earlier this morning,” Johnson’s office confirmed. The news was a little bit of a shock because the baby arrived early. It was previously said that the baby was not due until the summer. Thankfully, “both mother and baby are doing very well,” according to the announcement.

The Telegraph reported that Johnson was able to be with Symonds during the birth. “The PM and Ms. Symonds would like to thank the fantastic NHS maternity team,” the statement said. The prime minister also confirmed that he will take paternity leave later in the year so that he can focus on the pandemic right now.

Two days ago, Johnson shared an update on Instagram as he got back to work. He wrote, "I am sorry I have been away from my desk for much longer than I would have liked, and I want to thank everybody who has stepped up – in particular the First Secretary of State Dominic Raab who has done a terrific job. And once again I want to thank you, the people of this country, for the sheer grit and guts you have shown and are continuing to show. We will beat this together."

The baby is Symonds’ first child. Johnson has four children with his second wife Marina Wheeler and has one other child from another relationship.
