Brad Pitt has been in the spotlight for decades — which is why it's funny that he assumes that nobody would openly question his new girlfriend. Model Nicole Poturalski, known best as Nico Mary, is only 27. And here's a bombshell: She's actually married.
The two have been dating for months but have largely gone unrecognized. That could be because Nico is pretty good at keeping quiet in regard to her personal life. According to Cosmopolitan, she has a son named Emil, who's 7 years old. The father is Nico's husband. Nico, apparently, isn't a stranger to dating men much older than she is. Brad Pitt is 56 years old. But Nico's husband, Roland Mary, is 68.
Roland apparently owns a restaurant in Berlin, and that's apparently where Brad and Nico met for the first time. Alarm bells might not have gone off in Brad's head, as Nico and Roland reportedly have an open marriage. However, the arrangement is still strange for many of his fans.
Nico and Brad have been connected for nearly a year. They were first spotted out in November 2019 during Kanye West's performance at the Hollywood Bowl.
Still, it's a big surprise for fans — especially those who really dug the chemistry he's had during his recent appearances with Jennifer Aniston. According to Daily Mail, Roland actually gave Nico's number to Brad, which means he must be on board with the pairing. "Roland is a very philosophical guy," a source told them. "He has been married several times and has five children. … They are still married but you could describe their relationship as an open marriage."
The publication also said that Brad has never attempted to be secretive over the new pairing. Sources told the publication that "they were kissing and Brad was being super attentive to her. He was in a semi-public place but didn't seem to mind people seeing him. She's a real beauty and obviously a lot younger than him."
However, Brad's PR team might know how bad this all might look. Not only is Nico young enough to be his daughter, but the fact that she's not even single may be a bad look for Brad, especially as he's still dealing with the fallout from his divorce with Angelina Jolie. Sources have already tried to cool down the intensity of the speculation by saying that Brad isn't looking for anything serious right now.
"It's currently a go-with-the-flow situation, and Nicole's not running around yelling about her love for Brad from the rooftops," a source told Us Weekly, stating that the two are often just hanging out in Los Angeles together. "Nicole is there a lot for work. That's where the bulk of her dates with Brad have been."
"Brad thinks Nicole is beautiful and kind," the source added. "He has absolutely no plans nor any desire to ever get married again. Brad doesn’t want a girlfriend that he's with every day." It makes sense to back out of the idea of marriage, especially after having two of them publicly fail.
However, it seems as if the source may be already paving an exit for Brad, just in case this relationship happens to fall flat. And honestly, the odds aren't really in their favor. However, they're involved enough that Nico felt the need to comment on Brad's weakening connection to Angelina.
The phrase Nico used was, "Happy people don't hate." Many felt like it had to do something with the ongoing battle that Brad and Angelina are going through, especially when it comes to custody of their kids. When fans saw that Nico was weighing in, they suddenly zoomed into their relationship even more.
Brad, reportedly, wasn't that upset over his girlfriend saying some words. But he was shocked that others read so much into them. "For it to become this thing that suddenly everyone was talking about should have been surprising to Brad," an insider reported to Us Weekly. "At this time in his life, Brad is just happy that he has found someone that makes him feel cherished and loved.”
Nico also made sure to clarify that she and Brad were "Not hating [on] anyone," and she cleared that up further with a message of "WE LOVE. WE SUPPORT. WE SMILE. LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL. BIGGEST KISS." One of the disagreements that Brad and Angelina are currently having is related to the schooling of their kids, aside from the complications brought on by the virus.
"[She] will only agree to talk about an agreement if the home base for the children isn't Los Angeles," an insider revealed. "The younger kids are in school in Los Angeles, which Angelina has always been opposed to. They are very smart and are eager to attend school in person." While their split seems so long ago, kids often add complication — and Brad and Angelina definitely have a lot of kids.
His relationship with Nico is reportedly his first since splitting with Angelina. He was rumored to have been dating Arrested Development star Alia Shawkat, but the two are reportedly just friends. She even confirmed it herself, saying that the media attention regarding the rumor was crazy for her to witness.
"All my friends were like 'What's going on?' and sending me photos," Alia told Vulture. "I just felt overwhelmed. It's that feeling of being naked in school, like, Oh my God, everyone's looking at me. I've gotten press, but not like that." TMZ also denied the Alia rumors but at the time also stated that Brad wasn't seeing anyone — which fans now know is untrue.
This also cancels out any hope for a reunion with Jennifer Aniston — even though we all know that Jennifer can do even better. After their very public split, the two exes have shown that even they can remain as cordial friends. The two always seem overjoyed to run into each other, and fans of the past couple can't get enough.
At the end of the day, the only important aspect is whether or not Brad and Nico are both happy with their special arrangement. While it'd be nice to see Brad try to date someone closer to his age range, it's proof that Brad's life may not be as open of a book as many people thought. Yet being able to engage in a private relationship for nine months must have been a nice break.
