Most women I know imagined what their weddings would be like, once they were older and engaged. They came up with the perfect location, accessories, food, and dress. They even had an idea of what the perfect man would be like.
Twenty-four-year-old Heidi Fisk was excited to marry her sweetheart, Jeremie Duncan. The two have been together since she was 18, but have known one another since they were just toddlers.
For the past few years, however, Heidi has been battling crippling kidney failure. It's kept her in the hospital for a very long time. She and Jeremie attempted to marry twice already, but the bride was always too sick to make it to the altar.
So when the nurses at Duke University Hospital heard about the couple's intention to marry, they decided to step in to help.
The nurses and other hospital staff were able to organize a wedding for the couple, and even managed to bake them a cake.
The beautiful bride was even able to stand for the 20-minute ceremony, and then share a first dance with her new husband.
What sweet and loving gestures. We're sure this couple made many memories to last a lifetime at the ceremony, despite the location and the circumstances.
Please SHARE to congratulate the happy couple, and to thank the caring medical staff who stepped in to make the special day possible!
