Amid the barrage of parents posting back-to-school pictures of their kids, there are some behind-the-scenes moments of first days that you often don’t get to see.
There are the middle schoolers groaning at their alarm clocks. There are elementary school students trying to milk the last few minutes out of their summers before they get ready. Then there are the kids starting school who aren’t quite as excited as their siblings. Not all parents are cool with showing their kids weren’t excited for the first day, but Nick and Vanessa Lachey have no problem putting it out there.
Last week, Nick posted a picture of his oldest, Camden, on the first day of kindergarten. The kid looked pretty pumped and ready to go. A week later, little sister Brooklyn had her first day of prekindergarten. She wasn’t quite as thrilled about school as her big brother, and Vanessa captured the moment to share on Instagram.
Vanessa and Nick Lachey were married in 2011, and they've been couple goals ever since.
They have three beautiful kids: Camden, 5, Brooklyn, 4, and Phoenix, 1 1/2.
Phoenix was born prematurely in December 2016. Nick and Vanessa have discussed how that changed their perspectives on parenting and made them realize each kid is an individual.
Now that they've adjusted to being a family of five, there's another big milestone the family celebrated: the first day of school.
Camden is starting kindergarten. Nick took to Instagram to post some sweet shots of his boy on his first day.
He joked about his son getting too old for public kisses as they shared a smooch for the camera.
Camden pushed away, concerned with being a cooler big boy. It's definitely a bittersweet moment for a parent.
Vanessa also couldn't help but post a few emotional photos with her son.
Alongside the two pictures, she penned a long tribute to Camden. "I am so proud of this little guy and can’t wait to see the man he will become," she boasted.
This week, Brooklyn took her first steps into school life.
She wasn't quite as pumped for her first day as Camden was. Vanessa posted this sweet shot of the 4-year-old pouting with her head hung low. Vanessa wrote, "We’re both NOT happy about this!!! #BrooklynElisabeth."
Other moms could relate to the back-to-school meltdown, joking that it ends when the kids graduate from college.
Some teachers were even on board with Brooklyn's mood.
Even the brave kids have a moment of apprehension, but they all make it through.
We hope the rest of Brooklyn's school year is filled with more smiles than day one!
