Bus Driver Leaves 7-Year-Old Girl On Side Of The Road, Then Drives Away

Britney Stevens believed her 7-year-old daughter, Kamiya was at her after school program as scheduled. Like many of the other Central Road Elementary School students, she was to get on a bus that would drop her off at the after-care.

However, when Stevens called to confirm that her daughter had safely arrived — and thank goodness she did — she was told that Kamiya never got on the bus. Stevens called the school and was told that Kamiya got on the wrong bus by accident, perhaps because all of the yellow buses look the same.

Instead of taking the girl back to school, the bus driver told her to get off the bus and left the 7-year-old girl on the side of the road near a gas station.

“They told me she got on the wrong bus and the principal was meeting her at the gas station,” Britney told WGN News.

Stevens was terrified but her daughter was thankfully safe. When she notified the school district they agreed with the mother that this was "not a safe situation."

The principal and mother are now coming up with a safety plan to ensure this never happens again. A tag will be placed on Kamiya's book bag to indicate which bus she should get on and an adult staff member will escort her to the correct bus.

The district is currently investigating the negligent bus driver.
