Cameron Diaz is just like new moms everywhere: She can't stop herself from gushing about her infant daughter, Raddix. Cameron and her husband, Benji Madden, surprised everyone when they announced they had welcomed Raddix earlier this year. Believe it or not, Raddix is already 6 months old.
Cameron recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and she just couldn't stop herself from waxing poetic about her favorite baby. "It's been heaven, Jimmy," she started, before noting that she now understands why every parent she knows has been advising her to really enjoy the infancy period.
"Literally every single day, there's just leaps and bounds … and she's not the same baby that she was yesterday. Where was yesterday? Yesterday is literally gone, and today is a new day, and tomorrow will be a new day that she's a completely different baby."
Parents everywhere can definitely identify with the feeling that your baby's infancy is just flying by. But, obviously, even though it goes fast, there's also so much joy that comes with experiencing all of those early milestones.
Cameron definitely loves being able to bask in her daughter's new adventures. "But it's so gratifying to actually get to see that growth and to be a part of it. It's just amazing. It's the best thing that ever happened to both Benj and I. We're just so happy."
Cameron also shared that she and Benji have definitely opened themselves up to new and different music since they became parents. "We have 'Baby Shark' on rotation. We have 'Elmo's Song.' We have Sesame Street. It's crazy. We're like jamming out over there, and she loves it!"
Cameron also says that Raddix definitely appears to have an affinity for music, which makes sense. Benji and his twin brother, Joel, started their band Good Charlotte in 1996. The pair have also performed with their second group, The Madden Brothers. Benji and Joel both served as coaches on The Voice Australia in 2015.
Cameron really seems to delight in her daughter's budding love of music: "It's like she changes. When we go on car drives, Benj will put on some Cuban, Afro-Cuban music, and she is in her car seat and her little legs are kicking … and I'm like, 'Yep, that's my girl!'"
The notoriously private couple announced their daughter's birth on Instagram in early January 2020. The pair wrote, "We are so happy, blessed and grateful to begin this new decade by announcing the birth of our daughter, Raddix Madden. She has instantly captured our hearts and completed our family. So we won't be posting pictures or sharing any more details, other than the fact that she is really really cute! Some would even say RAD."
The pair have also wanted to become parents for years, and sources close to the couple have shared that they seem to be perfect for the roles of mom and dad: "Despite everything that's going on, Cameron and Benji are having the best year as a family. They are the perfect team and love being parents."
The couple have been the subject of intense speculation in regard to their possible parenting plans over the years. When they got married in 2015, many assumed Cameron was pregnant. One source told In Touch Weekly, "They have a baby on the way, and they couldn't be happier. There were some really tough times when she thought motherhood maybe just wasn't in the cards for her, but she never gave up hope that someday she would become a mom."
In July 2009, Cameron recognized that she had no idea what her future held in terms of parenting. She told Cosmopolitan UK, "I think women are afraid to say that they don't want children because they're going to get shunned. But I think that's changing too now. I have more girlfriends who don't have kids than those that do. And honestly? We don't need any more kids. We have plenty of people on this planet. I never say never. I don't know what's going to happen. I could end up adopting half a dozen kids, or I could end up being the next Octo-mom — who frickin' knows?"
The following year, she chatted about becoming a parent with In Style magazine: "I'm not opposed to it happening. Having children changes your life drastically, and I really love my life. Children aren't the only things that bring you gratification and happiness, and it's easier to give life than to give love. So I don't know. That kind of change would have to be either very well thought out, or a total mistake — a real oops!"
In 2014, she was definitely open to the possibility: "I've never said never to anything in life. If I wanted kids, at any point in life, I would have them. But I'm certain that if at any point I wanted a child, that child would find its way into my life, whether through adoption, or through being in a relationship with somebody who has a child. I can't see the future, but one thing I do know is that I'm not childless."
She added, "I have a ton of children in my life. I can have a kid any second, if I want. All my friends would be like, 'Sure, come and get them.' I also, by the way, have a lot of girl friends who don't have children. It's not like I'm the spinster who didn't have a child. I just didn't do that in life, and I'm OK with that. I know the choices I made. I know why I made them. I'm very much a person who lives in the moment. When you come from where I do, there are so many ways my life could have gone."
However, Benji and Cameron began dating in 2014, and it's probably not surprising that Cameron shifted her views on both marriage and parenthood. It's pretty clear that she met the right person to take those steps with, and now she seems really happy and like she's completely loving her life as a wife and mother.
