From her very first episode of 16 and Pregnant in 2009 to recent episodes of Teen Mom nearly a decade later, it's been clear that Catelynn and Tyler Baltierra have had difficult lives. Their teen pregnancy with their first child, Carly, was only one of the difficult situations the two have found themselves in. The couple most recently suffered through a miscarriage earlier this year, and the event understandably took its toll on Catelynn, who received treatment for mental health issues following the miscarriage.
Just a few weeks ago, Catelynn announced on Instagram that she and Tyler were expecting a "rainbow baby," a popular term describing a child born after a mother suffers a miscarriage. The couple, who have been together for 13 years and married for three years, were surprised by the pregnancy, as they explained to US Weekly: "It was a huge shock at first. We were not planning it, especially after the miscarriage and how I went downhill with my mental illness." Recently, Tyler took maternity photos of Catelynn to celebrate their upcoming arrival, and they're simply stunning!
Catelynn and Tyler Baltierra have been together for 13 years. The two met in middle school and appeared together in season one of MTV's 16 and Pregnant.
The couple got married in 2015.
The couple has two children. Their oldest, Carly, was the child they put up for adoption during their journey on 16 and Pregnant, but they remain in contact. Their youngest daughter, Novalee, is 3 years old.
After suffering a miscarriage that brought Catelynn's mental health issues to a difficult head earlier this year, the couple found out that they were expecting again.
Catelynn and Tyler have been overwhelmed with excitement for their rainbow baby.
Catelynn has been posting some pictures from this photo shoot since announcing this pregnancy. In a recent post, she revealed that Tyler took the photos of her.
This pregnancy was a surprise to the couple. "We were going to wait a really long time," Catelynn explained to Us Weekly. "We were using protection and everything and still got pregnant. This baby just wanted to be here. It was very unexpected."
While the couple is ready to add a little boy to their lives, they have yet to reveal the sex of the baby.
The newest member of the Baltierra clan is due in March, putting Catelynn around the four-month mark.
Catelynn has been vocal about her struggle with postpartum depression following Novalee's birth. While the couple had concerns about experiencing the same thing again, they were determined not to let those concerns stop them from expanding their family.
She told Us Weekly about the differences between that experience and this one. "The last time I got pregnant I had really bad anxiety. With this pregnancy it’s completely different. I’m not anxious. I’m not depressed. I’m actually in a really good mental state with this one"
She went on to discuss her belief that everything that has happened to her has been for a reason:
“As devastating as the miscarriage was, I really feel like I’ve worked with my counselor. I really believe in my heart that I was meant to have that miscarriage because I spiraled so hard that it forced me to go to a place where I really had to dig into my childhood traumas and things like that that I have not really dug in before.”
She continued:
“I really think that it was a push to really work harder on things that I really wasn’t working on even though it was a sad and emotional thing. I really think that that baby was meant to leave so that way I was meant to really dig deeper on my wounds from my childhood.”
It's wonderful to see that Catelynn has worked through her struggles and is in a better place for this exciting time for her family.
