5-Year-Old Girl Proves She Knows More About Cars Than Most Grownups

Daddy asks his 5-year-old daughter to help him with some light automotive engineering and she can't wait to do it.

It's little girls like 5-year-old Charlie (and this little girl who wants to play with "boys' toys") that are not only OK with getting their hands dirty, but are really excited about it, who will change the world!

If you're wondering why the internet is making such a big deal about this video, uploaded by Charlie's parents on Youtube, I'm going to provide you with a few nuggets of information.

In 2015, Mary Barra stepped up as CEO of General Motors making her the first female CEO of any major car company in history. While that's awesome news — our daughters need role models besides female pop stars, right? — only 25 percent of jobs in the automotive industry are held by women. That fact is all the more mind-boggling when data from the consultant firm Frost & Sullivan shows that women influence 80 percent of car purchasing decisions.

Women like cars, they're interested in cars, but they aren't represented in the car industry.

A lot of people believe it's because of female stereotypes about women not being able to understand engineering or cars not being girlie enough.

Only 1 in 5 women in the automotive industry are engineers.

Let's SHARE this video and show Charlie and her family that she can change all of that!
