Teachers Forbid 5-Year-Old’s ‘Unhealthy’ Snack For Months, Then Mom Goes To The Administration

Moms get plenty of criticism as it is. From breastfeeding to how they dress their kids, it can sometimes seem like moms are told that they can't do anything right.

Of course, being a mom is a tough job, and most mamas are doing an amazing job despite what strangers have to say about it.

But for one mom, the shaming has gone too far.

Constance Hall, a 33-year-old mom of six, is outspoken about her experience mothering. But a recent situation has left her speechless.

Constance had been ordering her 5-year-old son, Arlo, a harmless pre-lunch snack of yogurt and chocolate milk for months. One day, Arlo asked his mom to give him something else, because his teachers weren't allowing him to eat that snack. Constance was shocked.

Keep reading to find out why Arlo's teachers had a problem with his snack.

Constance orders Arlo a "recess-snack" from his school, which is what she calls his pre-lunch snack. She says she was given three options: a yogurt, a chocolate milk, or a juice.

Constance chose the chocolate milk and the yogurt. She said, "I thought chocolate milk would be good so it could line his tummy if he's only having yogurt for recess."

For two months, this was Arlo's snack — but he wasn't allowed to eat it.

One day, Arlo asked his mom not to choose chocolate milk for his snack. He told her, "I wish that you didn't get me the chocolate milk… the teachers don't let me have it. They make me have it at lunch time because it's not healthy enough for recess."

Constance was stunned. After all, chocolate milk was one of the options the school gave her. When she spoke to Arlo's school, they told her that Arlo is allowed to have chocolate milk — but with lunch, not as a snack.

Constance has a pretty thick skin, but she says this incident bothered her more than usual. She said,

“I’m a pretty confident chick and I’m in a really good position in my life. For me to feel like that from this conversation that I had, could you imagine if I had this conversation back when I was at my lowest and I couldn’t afford to even do lunch orders because I had twin babies — newborn babies — and I was living on my own and couldn’t get to the supermarket… I would have burst into tears.”

Constance did not report on if Arlo is now allowed to have his chocolate milk. As of now, there is no comment available from his school.

What do you think? Is Arlo's chocolate milk a perfectly fine morning snack, or are his teachers right?
