When a mom learns that she's expecting a child, she and her partner are likely to be ecstatic to welcome a new member to their family—especially if this child will be their first.
But for Lacey Buchanan, that joy was dampened when she found out her son, Christian, would be afflicted with a rare deformity. He is one out of only 50 people in the world to be affected by Amniotic Band Syndrome (ABS), which restricts blood flow during fetal development.
As a result, little Christian was born with a cleft lip and palate, and no eyes. He relies on sounds and his sense of touch.
Not only does Lacey's son get stared at, but she often gets criticized for her decision to not choose abortion. Despite all the horrible comments that made her feel miserable, she stood by her decision.
She fired back and silenced those critics with a home video, which went viral.
In it, Lacey tells her story, then introduces Christian to the camera. He is a happy and giggling baby, just like any other. He may look a little different from his peers, but his joy brings happiness to the people around him.
Now, the mom and her son are an inspiration to millions. Christian is also now a big brother, and is quickly growing into the role.
