1950s Teens Go To Prom Together. 64 Years Later, They Reunite And Fall Back In Love

Everyone dreams of having a love story that is sweet, romantic, and worth telling their kids and grandkids.

Some people imagine marrying their high school sweetheart, while others picture locking eyes with someone across a crowded bar and knowing they'll be with that person forever.

In the 1950s, it wasn't uncommon for people to fall in love in high school, go to prom with their significant other, and then marry them after graduation.

Joyce Kevorkian and James Bowman (Jim) went through the first two steps of that scenario, but never made it to the engagement and marriage part.

After they graduated from high school in 1953, Joyce and Jim went to different colleges and lost touch with one another. They each got married and had children, letting their high school romance be just a sweet memory.

Last fall, Jim called his old prom date to talk about planning a high school reunion, and the spark they once felt was reignited.

When Joyce's granddaughter, Anna Harris, learned about her grandmother's renewed romance, she posted some photos and a message on the Facebook page Love What Matters.

In less than 24 hours, the post had over 32,000 reactions and 2,100 shares.

Anna wrote:

My Grandma’s high school boyfriend, Jim, called her up a few months ago to plan a high school reunion.

They are both 81 and widowed.

Then they had another phone call.

And another.

Which turned into a visit.

And then, they fell in love all over again.

My Grandma started smiling again.

Our talks started to be about her future instead of her past.

She became herself again.

I guess the same thing happened to Jim.

His daughter called my grandma and thanked her for 'helping her dad smile again.'

Not many people marry their prom date… but tomorrow my Grandma gets to marry hers, even if it is 64 years after prom!

Joyce and Jim have a new sense of energy and are so excited to be reunited with one another.

Their families couldn't be more excited for the two love birds.

Joyce told BuzzFeed that she and Jim never expected to be happy again after their spouses passed away, but finding each other made them feel alive again.

On April 1, 2017, Jim and Joyce tied the knot in a simple ceremony.

Anna served as her grandmother's maid of honor at the wedding.
