Military Dad Returns Home To Find Daughter Sleeping On A Mattress In Locked Kitchen

There are so many sacrifices that individuals who serve their country have to make when they enlist. One of the hardest parts must be never being entirely sure how everyone is making out at home when you’re away on tour.

Captain Peter Xavier had been away from his family and home for eight long months. He was lucky enough to be discharged two months early from his current tour, and he had hopes of surprising his wife, Linda, and daughter, Melissa.

Peter walked through the front door of his house and excitedly called out to his wife, daughter, and two stepsons only to receive no response. It was a Saturday morning when everyone would have usually been at home, but the house appeared empty.

He called out his daughter’s name one last time and suddenly heard, “Daddy! I’m here in the kitchen!”

He ran over to the kitchen door and was surprised to discover that it was locked. He opened the door and his daughter was standing before him with tears running down her face. She told him how much she had missed him.

As Peter was hugging Melissa, he couldn’t help but notice a mattress in the corner of the kitchen. He was so confused. He asked his daughter if she had been sleeping in here and where her stepmom and the boys were.

“I can’t tell you! Don’t you see, Daddy? You’ll go away again and I’ll be alone with them again!” Melissa exclaimed.

Peter assured her that she didn’t have anything to be afraid of anymore; he just wanted her to tell him the truth.
