‘Deaf Perception’ Is A True Story About The Bullying Deaf Twin Sisters Face Every Day

It’s really rare that we ever hear about teenagers getting the chance to share their unique stories through film, but when was the last time deaf twin sisters had an amazing opportunity like that? Right now, actually!

Produced by their mom and dad, Alyssa and Ashley Dole wrote and acted in the short film Deaf Perception. It’s a true story about the relentless bullying and challenges they face — and that’s on a daily basis.

Whether it’s ordering a coffee or simply sitting alone together, the way these twins communicate with one another seems to distract and even enrage the people around them.

We have no way of truly understanding what life is like for those with a hearing impairment, but thanks to the incredible talents of Alyssa and Ashley, we now have a small window into that experience.

Remember the dance class where almost everyone was hearing impaired? Or the little girl who formed an unshakable bond with a dog who, like her, was deaf?

The more we share stories like those, as well as this amazing film, we can do more than merely raise awareness — we can celebrate our differences as human beings! I know that just by watching Deaf Perception, my whole perspective changed.

Don’t forget to watch the whole video! The ending just might surprise you.
