Darla Neugebauer, owner of Marcy’s Diner in Portland, ME, made headlines this week after a customer complaint turned into a viral feeding frenzy.
According to Neugebauer, it all started when a toddler set up a fuss in her dining room while waiting for a stack of three large pancakes to be finished on the restaurant’s small griddle.
Admittedly, says Neugebauer, the process took a while, but that’s par for the course at a popular brunch spot on a Saturday. Maybe they should have just tried whipping these up at home?
When the pancakes did arrive, the parents allegedly set the plate out of the toddler’s reach and continued their conversation. After about 30 minutes, the tot had really blown up a head of steam, progressing from fussing to full-on screaming tantrum.
Before long, Neugebauer has had it and other customers are starting to leave. So she takes a stand, and screams her feelings right back. Now, like the parents who stole Christmas, she’s in the middle of a debate about the morality of her actions.
Needless to say, the parents aren’t happy about someone screaming at their baby, Neugebauer isn’t happy about someone screaming in her restaurant, and pretty soon after everyone has taken to the internet expressing their unhappiness.
After a great deal of back and forth on Yelp and Facebook, Neugebauer is confident of one thing. She is definitely not sorry.
