Every love story is special, but Jeffrey and Lorrie Agan have one that's truly unique — and now, it's touching hearts all over the world.
The Bowling Green, Ohio, couple recently went viral thanks to their son, Jeffrey Agan, Jr. The two first married in 1989 when they were in their 20s and had eight kids together (including Jeffrey Jr.) before deciding to divorce in 2014, after over 25 years together.
"They originally got married in an electronics store, because they were too poor to afford a proper wedding. They fought, separated, divorced, and it tore the family apart. Each of us felt like we had to cope with the destruction in different ways, and on our own," Jeff told BuzzFeed.
But rather than become self-destructive, 52-year-old Jeffrey Sr. and 51-year-old Lorrie used their split to fuel personal growth and self-improvement.
"Both of my parents each went on a separate journey for self-renewal," Jeff told Jukin Media. For Jeffrey Sr., that involved going back to school for nursing after working for 20 years as a truck driver, getting physically fit by working out, and spending time writing poetry. Lorrie "found peace in nature through meditation and self-empowerment."
That's when things took the sort of turn that doesn't happen frequently among divorced couples — the former spouses reconnected. Soon enough, they started dating again, and this Christmas, Jeffrey Sr. knew he was ready to take things to the next level with his one-time wife once again.
Jeff captured the amazing moment when his dad surprised his mom by proposing a second time (over two decades after their first engagement) by gifting her a poem he'd written especially for her. When the 21-year-old posted his video to Twitter, it instantly went viral. Now, over 10 million people have watched Jeffrey Sr.'s amazing proposal and Lorrie's equally heartwarming reaction.
