The Monkees Drummer Micky Dolenz Crafts Fine Furniture With Daughter Georgia

Of all my memories with my dad as a kid, my favorites were spending time with him in the garage surrounded by piles of sawdust as we crafted something together. Well, he did most of the crafting, but it was still magical to watch as he transformed ordinary pieces of wood into beautiful new items we could use around the house.

You can find this dad doing his own share of woodworking with his daughter right by his side, too. When he's not on tour, that is. You might recognize the man behind the power saw better if he was sitting behind a drum kit instead. As a member of the wildly popular 1960s group The Monkees, Micky Dolenz became a teen sensation on both TV and countless concert venues across the world. Now 70, he still travels the globe singing the old hits like "Daydream Believer" and "Last Train to Clarksville."

But when he's home, you can find the father of four girls in the garage with his daughter, Georgia, crafting one-of-a-kind furniture.

Before finding fame, young Micky was studying to become an architect.

Georgia explained to Larchmont News that the family business was inspired by Micky's father who always told him, "if you can make it, don’t buy it!" Obviously, it's something he passed right along to his own kids!

They got their start with a gift for her boyfriend.

After finishing the impressive coffee table, Micky joked that they should become a small business. A few weeks later, Georgia showed up at one of his gigs to show him the newly minted website she made for Dolenz & Daughters Fine Furniture!

Their "shabby chic" items are each 100 percent made by their hands.

Micky takes care of most of the heavy lifting and power tool use while Georgia creates the designs and finishing touches.
