Art is an integral part of a child's developing mind — but up until recently we rarely considered how expression through may be limited for children with any number of disabilities. That's where artist Dwayne Szot comes in.
As an artist, he says, he wants to use his art as a means of outreach for children — an endeavor he hopes can be expanded through his project Zot Artz. "We're just touching the edge of possibilities of what we can do to create opportunities for individuals of all abilities," he tells the Huffington Post.
Szot says his passion for helping children with various levels of ability was born of his childhood growing up in foster care in the Midwest. He says being around kids with different needs than his inspired a courage and need in him to utilize those experiences for good.
For children like 8-year-old member Madison — who's top of her class despite having spinal muscular atrophy — Zot Artz provides a way for her to express herself and create art despite her limited mobility. Using only her wheelchair, she's able to paint and make sidewalk drawings with little to know help. "It's very fun," she tells the Huffington Post.
