In 2014, Elena Shumilova began taking photos of her sons in the Russian countryside. On a lark, Elena posted her photos online. Little did she know her work would strike a chord with millions of people around the world.
As a child, Elena spent her days outside, interacting with nature and falling in love with the world around her. As an adult, "real life" took over and she eventually moved to the city and worked as an architect. But she knew something was missing.
After getting married and having two little boys, Elena left her career as an architect to become a full-time mother. She and her husband decided to move away from the city to a beautiful farm on the lake — away from the noise and pollution. Her boys had a chance to relive the childhood of wonder she herself enjoyed as a little girl. Elena's sons spent their days running, climbing and exploring, "unspoiled by the world." One day, Elena picked up a camera and started snapping photos of her sons. From behind the lens, she saw the world in a whole new light and the rest was history…
