Baby Makes Her Way Outside And Falls Into Family Pool, Then 2-Year-Old Sister Grabs A Floatie

Having a pool right in your backyard sounds like a relaxing treat, but for the Betancourt family, it was a source of danger. Luckily, 2-year-old Elena Betancourt wasn't intimidated.

Elena knew how to use her floaties to get around the Port St. Lucie, Florida family's pool, but didn't know how to swim on her own yet. The resourceful toddler was about to get very familiar with swimming, and she was going to do it a lot faster than anyone would've expected.

One day, Elena's little sister, Araceli, made her way outside of the family home while her mother was making a quick run to the car.

Araceli approached the outdoor pool and fell in. Araceli was under a year old and left helpless in the water.

In a moment of true heroism, Elena grabbed one of her floats and went down the stairs of the pool, trudging through the water. She swam to the deep end, where her baby sister was.

Next, Elena grabbed Araceli from the water and pulled her to the stairs at the deep end. The 2-year-old, who never knew how to swim on her own, had just successfully saved her baby sister's life, all by instinct.

According to ABC Action News, "Araceli spent more than a day on life support, but finally pulled through with no lasting damage." Thanks to Elena's swift act of courage, Araceli survived her most frightening moment.
