Wisconsin Family Actually Finds The End Of A Rainbow

Have you ever tried to find the end of a rainbow? Legend has it that you'll find a pot of gold at the end, but first, you actually have to find the end! And that's easier said than done… Or is it?

One family in Wisconsin recently delighted the Internet with some photos that appeared as if they had in fact found the end of a rainbow.

On June 7, Jessica Schinke and her 5-year-old son, Theodore, were visiting her sister and teenage nieces, Victoria and Alexandria, in Chippewa, Wisconsin. It was a fairly typical family visit and then it began to gently rain.

When the sun reemerged from the clouds, a rainbow bloomed over the green fields and that's when the family noticed that it looked as though the rainbow's tip was just touching down right outside! So naturally, their first reaction was to get up and chase it.

Rainbows have fascinated people all over the world for thousands of years and almost every culture has their own tale about rainbows, like the one about how all the colors learned to work together.

These beautiful but fleeting natural phenomena are universally loved. And this Wisconsin family was lucky enough to capture a truly rare and amazing moment on camera, and they'll cherish the memory forever.

Read on to see their great photos and learn what the end of a rainbow really is!

After a rainstorm in scenic Chippewa, Wisconsin, this view greeted Jessica Schinke, her son Theodore, her sister, and her nieces, Alexandria and Victoria.

But as beautiful as it was, it was about to get even better.

Rainbows move as the water droplets in the air shift, and soon the family noticed that the rainbow was moving closer and closer…

Until it was right in their yard!

Alexandria, 15, and Victoria, 17, immediately ran out to see if they could find the famed end, and 5-year-old Theodore tagged along behind.

While the kids chased the rainbow, Schinke snapped these photos.

"It was amazing to see two teenage girls running and laughing in the rain instead of sitting inside with their faces glued to their phones," she said.

The rainbow only lasted about a minute, but it's a moment she'll remember for a long time.

But what actually happens when you find the end of a rainbow?

Well, for one thing, rainbows don't really have an end. They just appear to because from the ground, we're really only seeing a segment of the whole rainbow.

This aerial shot shows that rainbows are actually a circle, which we almost never see from the ground. This is why rainbows appear to have ends.

Rainbows will also appear to change location based on where you're standing, and on how the water and light are changing. Therefore, rainbows are fleeting phenomena, as Schinke mentioned.

But from the ground, it does appear that they have an end. Getting to it, however, is easier said than done.

In Schinke's case, the kids likely had a different perspective on the rainbow from their position. It would have either looked farther away or they may not have been able to see it at all.

However, from Schinke's vantage point, it appeared as though Victoria, Alexandria, and Theodore were standing right at the end.

So while there is a scientific explanation for Schinke's photos, it doesn't stop them from being beautiful and sweet. Just like rainbows themselves!

And in case you were wondering, they didn't find any gold. But, they did find three laughing kids, which is just as good!
