Horses are a very special breed of animal. As empaths, they are frequently used for therapy in people with special psychological or physical therapy needs. Equine therapy is an effective form of treatment used for people with behavioral disorders and trauma, such as troubled teens and war veterans, respectively. It’s also been shown to treat symptoms associated with autism, Down syndrome, and epilepsy.
We know that horses are highly intelligent animals and ones with an incredibly loving demeanor. Take for example a horse who got a peck on the cheek from his groomer and gave one right back! Or a little girl whose hippotherapy with a horse allowed her to stimulate muscles that weren’t previously strong enough to allow her to walk, a thing doctors had said she’d never do.
The below video tells another incredible story of how children at New Heights Therapy Center have benefited immeasurably from the effects of equine therapy. A tearful mother recounts how at 8 weeks her daughter’s doctors said she’d never walk, but thanks in part to riding, her daughter Maddie’s balance and strength has improved exponentially. For another mom, her son’s behavioral disabilities are immensely improved every time he visits the stables. And as we hear yet another little girl discuss how it's eased her physical pain, it’s impossible not to believe that equine therapy is truly miraculous.
