School Only Bans Student When He And A Teacher Get The Exact Same Haircut

Ethan Cos was an adorable 5-year-old from Springfield, OH. He picked his unusual haircut because it looked like a "dinosaur." The haircut is typically referred to as a mohawk, and is associated both with the indigenous community and punk rock style.

When Ethan showed up to his kindergarten class at Reid Primary and Middle School, the superintendent of the school district told the boy that his haircut was "edgy" and "disruptive," and they sent him home until he returned with an ordinary haircut.

Now you might be thinking: a mohawk is not exactly appropriate for a place of education. But here's the kicker, in the very same school district, an assistant coach shaved his hair into a mohawk to show school spirit.

Ethan was punished, but the teacher was not reprimanded in any way. If the school has a strict dressing and grooming code, wouldn't it only make sense for the administration to lead by example?

“Our policy clearly states that any dress or grooming which is disruptive or distracting to the educational process is not acceptable,” superintendent Gregg Morris said. “In this particular case, the student’s hairstyle did provide disruption to the classroom.”

However, when Morris was asked about the teacher, he merely said that "the scenarios are different." He never explained why.

Ethan's family compromised and shaved his head completely, prioritizing his education over politics. The family hopes that the school will do better to lead by example and be more supportive of its students in the future.
