The lengths that parents go to in order to help their children who are battling diseases is truly inspiring. Some show their support by shaving their heads to match their child's, while others give inspiring pep talks.
But one father's support for his son's ordeal extended past his surgery.
After undergoing surgery to remove a tumor in his brain due to anaplastic astrocytoma, 8-year-old Gabriel was left with a dramatic scar curving along the top of his ear. Worried that his scar would negatively affect his self-esteem, his father did something amazing in order to make him feel better.
While he couldn't necessarily match his son's scar via surgery, he got as close as he could to an authentic replica using tattoo ink.
Now the father and son duo have matching scars above their ears — and the internet can't get enough of the sweet, sweeping gesture.

Gabriel Marshall was diagnosed with anaplastic astrocytoma, a type of malignant brain tumor that required surgery to treat.

Though he became stable after the procedure was complete, the treatment left a sizable scar, curving along the side of his head.

His father, Josh, became concerned that the scar would affect his young son's self-esteem and would prevent him from being outgoing and confident.

Gabriel even expressed that the scar made him feel like a "monster."

So, his father came up with a solution to share his son's experience!

By way of a vivid tattoo, he got his own scar that matched his son's.

"I told him if people wanted to stare, they could stare at both of us," he explained to BuzzFeed.

Since posting the photo of their matching scars, Josh and his son have been making waves on social media, overwhelmed with supportive responses toward his caring modification.
His sweet gesture proudly presents his affection for his son, and how he is willing to go through anything, including faux brain surgery, in order to show it.
