In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded on the streets of Colorado, a 2-year-old boy named Isaiah Weitzel found himself involved in a horrifying car crash, reportedly a consequence of his own father’s heinous actions.
Nathan Weitzel, driven by what authorities describe as a shocking desire to avoid fatherhood, allegedly deliberately crashed his car into two parked vehicles, leaving his son seriously injured.
Nathan Weitzel, 29, is accused of trying to kill his son just because he didn’t want to be a father. Police believe that Nathan purposely crashed his car going 75 miles per hour into two parked cars. Shockingly, Isaiah was not secured in a car seat and wasn’t wearing a seat belt, magnifying the severity of the situation.
What makes this incident even more chilling is the father’s callous response to his injured son. Eyewitnesses revealed their shock as they observed Nathan not comforting his injured child, but horrifyingly, hitting him. Sheriff’s deputies in the Denver area say that Nathan admitted, “I was trying to kill my son.” Nathan has been charged with attempted first-degree murder.
It is truly a miracle that Isaiah survived this horrific crash. Inside Edition held a phone interview with Isaiah’s mother, Nancy Lopez, and this is what she had to say about the incident. “It’s been really tough on him [Isaiah]. Not being able to go play and the other things that regular 2-year-olds do.”
When asked about Nathan, Nancy responded, “I think he needs help mentally and I think that he should stay in jail for the rest of his life.” Inside Edition shows videos of Isaiah all bandaged up in the hospital but openly babbling. It’s extremely shocking that someone could intentionally hurt such a sweet little boy, especially his father.
