911 Operator Answers The First Call Of The Day, But All He Hears Is A Woman Screaming

When most of us get to work first thing in the morning, it can be easy to just want to ease into the responsibilities of the day. Well, Litchfield County 911 dispatcher Matthew Ludwig didn't have that luxury on April 14, 2017. Instead, Matthew received a first call of the day like nothing he had ever experienced in his 15-year career.

The 911 emergency call came at 6 a.m. Matthew, of Goshen, Connecticut, promptly picked up.

All he could hear were screams.

"It was screaming in the background, it could go either way, you don't know," Matthew said, recalling the events of his first call of the morning.

In fact, after getting through all the screaming, Matthew quickly found out what was going on.

"My wife is in active labor right now," said Ian Parker, the man on the other line.

Matthew quickly gauged the situation and informed his colleagues. Then, staying calm throughout, he helped Ian deliver his baby… all done over the phone!

“Stay on the line. I’m going to help you through this,” he told the worried dad.

Matthew guided Ian through the process, reminding him that the newborn would be slippery. He also tried to make sure both Mom and Dad stayed calm throughout.

The entire process took just 10 minutes.
