Before my brother walked down the aisle, I was assigned the task of whipping up the invitations for him and his now wife. Luckily for them, I hadn't gotten a look at the funny and creative ideas below. Otherwise, the classy design they requested might have been thrown out the window!
Don't get me wrong. More traditional invites with swooping fonts and a loving photo of the couple are great, but I was in actual tears laughing at more than a few of the funny wedding invitations below. And others just made me jealous. I would have loved to have received the invitation in No. 17 — such an awesome invitation.
It really takes something to get this creative with what could be a pretty streamlined part of wedding planning. I admire each and every one of these couples who went the extra mile to entertain us all with their funny wedding invitations.
1. Ring, Ring
This RSVP card brings the idea of "being there with bells on" to a whole new level. First, you'll have to figure out just how comfortable you are with said bells. I would definitely have a hard time making this important decision.
2. Beautiful Harmony
Debra and Oliver decided to take the "one night only" concert poster approach. Truth be told, they look like serious rock stars. I have a feeling their vows earned a standing ovation.
3. Hottest Ticket in Town
This save-the-date looks just like a good old-fashioned concert ticket. It's a really cute and creative way to spread the word. The details on this almost made me overlook it while scrolling through the web!
4. Cashing In
Not only does this credit-card-looking invite look awesomely real, but it's even got the modern chip update. The couple's photo in the corner is a sweet touch. According the Reddit user who shared this couple's save-the-date, this is one of the more popular styles over in India.
5. Killer Party
A horror-movie-themed wedding day? Count us in for these killer nuptials. Hopefully things didn't get quite this out of hand at their reception, but it looks like the clever couple could hold their own during a zombie outbreak, regardless.
6. Don't Forget the Fine Print
With this invite, it's all in the details. I wish we had the full invite from this hilariously honest couple! They clearly know their audience well, and we can only imagine how that translated on the big day.
7. Setting Them at Ease
This homage to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is extra impressive thanks to the couple's convenient initials. There's also a Futurama reference that a lot of guests seemed to love. What an awesome way to bring your personality to a formal event in a subtle way!
8. Everyone's a Winner
Roll the dice and pick up a card. One of the action cards reads "Groom is indecisive about most things, go back two spaces." Another hilarious one reads, "Bride leaves her clothes on the floor, go back two spaces."
9. Game On
Another couple who went with a clever game theme that's too sweet. How precious is "Collect 200 Kisses" on the "Go" sign? And upping that number for the ceremony! We can't get enough of the Boardwalk "Man & Wife" space.
10. Monster Mash
The designer got creative with faux names from The Rocky Horror Picture Show to keep the real identities of the bride and groom a secret before sharing this on Imgur. The play of Bride of Frankenstein and the artwork are just stunning. It's perfect for a Halloween wedding.
11. Epic Love
Reddit user DrNolove confirmed that this is his and his fiancée's pet dog taking the place of the classic film's luck dragon. You have to give this props for just how much fun this couple looks like they had in the photo. The design is so quirky and so sweet.
12. Caught by the Law
The Reddit user explained, "My aunt is marrying a sheriff. Their invitation nearly gave everyone a heart attack." It does a pretty good job of tricking you into thinking it's an official document.
13. Leveling Up
This couple kept things old school. I love the commitment to the 8-bit versions of themselves, rather than a more realistic photo. It's a perfect pairing with the cartridge look.
14. Photo Finish
This is a simple but very unique RSVP card. This idea for upcycling used film canisters is absolutely stunning! It's also a fun way of showing a memento from yesteryear to your youngsters.
15. Flying High
The Reddit user explained how this was totally on point for her sister and soon-to-be husband. Both the bride and groom are pilots. Our only worry is that some people might mistake this for an invitation to join the bride and groom on their honeymoon!
16. Raw Deal
Nothing says "my special day" quite like a potato. The gag invite between close friends is hilarious. After getting this from her best friend, Imgur user yearofpenny commented, "I'm probably going to make him hash browns as my RSVP."
17. Getting Into the Groove
Each mini-record was customized with songs for the guest. It's super thoughtful and unique. I'm so jealous I wasn't invited!
18. Bye-Bye Beard
This one is for all the brides to be begging their guys to clean up their look. It seems like this bride got her way about her fiancé's facial hair for this goofy save-the-date. We're curious what kind of facial hair he'll sport for the wedding.
19. Channeling Beyoncé
It's surprising that we don't see more Beyoncé incorporated into weddings, honestly. You know it's true love when he agrees to send these out to all his family and friends. It's even truer love if he can do the dance.
20. Using the Force
This invitation is sure to be the envy of every comic book fan. I bet you got the Star Wars theme in your head just looking at this (because I sure did). The details are incredible.
21. Official Summons
This is another one of those invites designed to momentarily alarm potential guests. I wonder how many guests totally freaked out when they opened this up. Kudos to the husband for taking the deputy spot, because we all know the bride takes the top spot.
22. Love Sick
The love between this pair of doctors is clearly more than skin deep. This is such a clever way to bring their profession into play. This also has to be the most names we've ever seen on one invite, so imagine how big the wedding was!
