Secret ‘Ghost Apps’ Might Be Hiding Secrets On Your Child’s Phone

No two parents face an issue the same way, but we all know that they are often facing the same problems.

After all, there are a handful of milestone hurdles that just about every parent faces at least once, ranging from first bedtime escape to first awkward sit-down for "the talk."

One of the most delicate topics among these hurdles? The first time your child starts keeping secrets. And not goofy toddler secrets like a hidden penchant for eating cat food — we’re talking real, big-time secrets.

While kids definitely deserve some privacy, there are a few easy-to-spot signs that may indicate that something is going on that you should know. It’s a good idea to keep an eye on their social media, place some restrictions on their tech time, and watch out for any strange new downloads.

This last policy is important because kids everywhere are now using “ghost apps” to try to stay one step ahead of Mom and Dad. These recently became a topic of national conversation after a group of kids in Colorado used hidden apps to share nude photos.

These apps are easily available for download, and appear on the phone as something innocuous — often a working calculator — but can conceal all sorts of hidden files.

While the Colorado incident seems isolated, it’s always a good idea to be prepared for trouble before it arrives. Check out the video below to learn more about managing these apps.

And if you were shocked that something like this could be hidden on your child’s phone, please SHARE and spread the word to other parents!
