As children, we found our passions in all the little things that interested us. For many, it was as simple as playing with marbles or Legos. Many kids love to play dress up, too, often insisting to wear all kinds of crazy costumes to school.
But others develop passions that are a little less common: one mother's 8-year-old daughter, for example, found an intense passion for insects.
Many children would squeal at the prospect of letting bugs crawl all over them, but Sophia, the daughter of single mom Nicole Spencer, relishes the time she spends studying the critters.
But others don't understand her interest or love for insects
So Nicole decided that it was time to reach out to people who could help Sophia feel better about her passion: She wrote an email to the Entomological Society of Canada, asking if anyone there could speak to her daughter.
The mom received an overwhelming number of responses from the entomologists, who all had the same message for the little girl: She isn't "weird" at all! In fact, she didn't just befriend entomologists in Canada, but all over the world who support her interest in insects!

Sophia Spencer has quite the unusual passion for an 8-year-old: She has developed quite the interest in bugs!
Unfortunately, the little girl was bullied so badly for her interest that she started to lose confidence. Her mom, Nicole, wanted to do something about it, to show her daughter that there are others just like her!
The single mom sent an email to the Entomological Society of Canada, asking if anyone there could help her daughter.
The duo didn't receive just one response, but a ton! Sophia made many new friends when entomologists all over the world showed their support for her and her passion.
Now, Sophia is encouraged more than ever. She knows that she isn't "strange" or "weird" at all. There are other cool people like scientists who share her interest!
Hopefully, this has encouraged the adorable little girl to love her passion more than ever!
