Gisele Bündchen Breaks Silence On Tom Brady Divorce, He Posts Quote About ‘False Friends’

Gisele Bündchen has opened up about why she and Tom Brady divorced.

While speaking to Vanity Fair for the magazine's April 2023 issue, Gisele said that the divorce was about a lot more than just football, and she described the rumor that she gave her ex an ultimatum about retirement "the craziest thing [she’s] ever heard."

Gisele also said that she is rooting for Tom every day. As she put it, "If there’s one person I want to be the happiest in the world, it’s him, believe me. I want him to achieve and to conquer. I want all his dreams to come true."

Ultimately, Gisele said that the pair simply grew apart. As she explained, "When I was 26 years old and he was 29 years old, we met, we wanted a family, we wanted things together. As time goes by, we realize that we just wanted different things."

Gisele also hinted at the possibility that Tom wasn't prepared to help her achieve her own goals. After noting that the split doesn't mean she and Tom don't love each other, she added, "It just means that in order for you to be authentic and truly live the life that you want to live, you have to have somebody who can meet you in the middle."

Tom has not directly addressed the interview, but he posted a quote about "false friends" on Instagram following its release. The quote begins, "What is success? To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends."

Gisele also spoke about the relationship she has with Tom's ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan, the mother of his 15-year-old son, Jack. Gisele says, "I have a great relationship with her. You have to go through the roller coaster. You have moments where you get to the sticky points and you’ve gotta overcome it."

Gisele added that she always wanted to make things easier for Bridget. She says the "goal was always, 'How can I be the most helpful? How can I make it the easiest I possibly can?' I put myself in her shoes and I was like, 'How can I support her?' Because in the end of the day, we are team players in 'How are we going to do this so [Jack] can have the best life?'"

She concluded, "We’re not playing against each other. We are a team, and that’s beautiful. I look back and I have no regrets. I loved every bit of it."
