It is so sad that in 2016, we are still constantly hearing stories of children — and adults — being bullied.
I have never understood how someone could bully another person, especially if they are quite obviously suffering with a disease. It’s just not right.
But when someone looks different or doesn’t quite fit in with the rest of a crowd, people tend to pick on them for their differences, rather than leaving them be or being supportive.
Austin is a 15-year-old with Goldenhar syndrome, a condition which is a congenital defect characterized by incomplete development of the ear, nose, soft palate, lip, and mandible. He was born without a jaw and his mouth is much smaller than other boys his age.
Less than 1 percent of the population has Goldenhar, so Austin doesn’t have anyone that understands what his life is like and what it is like to be bullied for something that he has no control over.
That is until the TLC show Two in a Million united Austin with 12-year-old Elena, who also has Goldenhar syndrome. The pair first corresponded together via messages, but then they were brought together to meet for the first time.
Austin anxiously waited by the window for Elena’s arrival and immediately ran outside as soon as he saw the car pulling up. He couldn’t wait to meet his friend!
Their excitement for finally meeting someone who knows what it is like to live with their condition and no longer having to struggle without having anyone there to confide in is obvious. They’re so happy!
Don’t forget to SHARE these two new best friends with all of your friends and family!
