There’s something about venturing out on exciting journeys with a loved one that can ignite something in your soul and give you the urge to keep going until you see everything on your bucket list.
CBS News shares the sweet story of a grandson who learned that his grandmother had never seen any mountains in her lifetime and felt the need to rectify that and take her on an adventure that led to them traveling to 63 US national parks together.
About eight years ago, Brad Ryan learned that his Grandma Joy hadn’t visited many US landmarks or must-see sites throughout her life. After learning this, Brad felt like he needed to take matters into his own hands and he planned a trip for himself and his grandma to visit the Great Smoky Mountains.
That incredible trip together quickly led to a goal of setting out to visit all 63 national parks with his 93-year-old grandmother.
“The more I kept on reading about the parks and I saw how close they were to one another — we could make this giant loop, it became an obsession,” Brad explains. He notes that for his own memories, he wanted to see his Grandma Joy experience all of these notable landmarks firsthand.

The last national park on their list that they visited together was the National Park of American Samoa, which is basically a tropical island community in the South Pacific.
“It’s beautiful. I’ve never seen such beautiful flowers in my whole life,” Grandma Joy recalls walking through a rain forest.
