I remember one day in fourth grade showing up for school late and my teacher saying something to me that really stuck: “Elyse, when is your birthday?”
When I responded with the date she said: “Great, I’m going to give you an alarm clock as a present.”
Thing was, I didn’t sleep in. And neither did my mom, who drove me to school. But she did get distracted. She got distracted every day — by the dog, newspaper, even a bag of sugar she couldn’t figure out how to close — and because of this tendency I was always late for everything.
She was actually so scattered that I remember being dropped off to the dentist once for a filling when I didn’t even have a cavity — but my sister had one!
I really wish for my — and my poor teeth’s — sake she was better organized and took it upon herself to be more together.
In fact, I wish Imgur user Hinz57 decided to create this DIY pinnacle of organization back when I was a kid rather than now. It’s so smart and orderly that it would have totally inspired my mom to better stay on top of things. Plus it’s super cute. Personally, I’m completely inspired…
This is how her hall way originally looked.
It was normal, if not a little on the drab side.
But with a new coat of paint, she also got a brilliant idea.
Why not utilize the unused space for a greater good?
After she gave the hall a new look with a new color, she also strategically painted a few spaces with chalkboard paint.
With the location of a few well-placed hooks, her Mommy Command Center is born.
Her next step was to create a calendar.
On it, she announced every meal for the next month. No more “What are we having for dinner?” for her!
She also made two prominent columns for two important things.
“Important” for things she needed to remember and the ever-important “Groceries” list.
It seems like this mom really has her act together.
What a creative way to get organized!
