Celebrity couples can be dramatic. There are dizzying rumors of infidelity, breakups, and makeups that are ultimately hard to keep up with and have to be exhausting to live through. Fortunately, not all Hollywood A-list couples are this conspicuous. Some, such as Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart, prefer to stay out of the limelight.
Harrison and Calista have managed to weather the storm of Hollywood relationships despite their significant age gap and busy careers. This does not surprise Harrison, but it is hard to imagine what would rattle the man behind Indiana Jones and Han Solo. Never tell him the odds.
Harrison and Calista first met in 2002 at the Golden Globes Award ceremony. Calista was there as a nominee for her work as the title character in the hit television series Ally McBeal. Harrison was receiving the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award.
The odds were not in the couple's favor. Harrison was in the middle of a divorce from his second wife, Melissa Mathison. He was 60 years old to Calista’s 38. Nevertheless, the chemistry was undeniable.
This did not faze Harrison. "Romantic love is one of the most exciting and fulfilling kinds of love and I think there is a potential for it at any stage of your life. I was not surprised that I was able to fall in love, and I wasn't surprised that I did,” he told People magazine.
Another wrinkle in their love story was Harrison and Calista’s children. Harrison was already a father of four when he met Calista. He shares sons Ben and Willard with first wife Mary Marquardt and son Malcolm and daughter Georgia with second wife Melissa. Calista had just adopted her son Liam the previous year.
Again, this was nothing this couple could not handle. After seven years of dating, Harrison proposed to Calista on Valentine’s Day 2009. He also went on to adopt Liam and said that he was always part of Calista's and his relationship.
Liam was an added bonus to Harrison. "I think Liam was about 6 or 8 months old when I met him and Calista. We have been together ever since … I wasn’t expecting it at all. The unexpected part was certainly true. And the joy part is also true,” Harrison explained to Parade magazine.
Harrison and Calista were married in June of 2010. The ceremony took place in Santa Fe, New Mexico. It was small and intimate, just the way this low-key couple prefers things. They have been going strong ever since.
Now that son Liam is off to college, Calista and Harrison are on the hunt for a project to work on together. "We'd love to find one we could do together," Harrison mused to Fox News. "She's just going back to work after having devoted herself to the raising of our son, Liam, for the last 20 years … [She's] enjoying going back to work. I'm hoping we will find something to do together."
