According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, children ages 1 to 4 have the highest drowning rates. Most drownings occur in home swimming pools.
Albert Passavanti and his family were relaxing in the backyard of their Palm Beach County, Florida, home. Everyone sat around the pool enjoying some peaceful moments in the sun.
All of a sudden, Albert's 1½-year-old son, Rocco, charged through the opening of the pool gate to chase an inflatable ball. That's when the day took a frightening turn.
Rocco fell straight into the pool … and he didn't know how to swim.
The family had installed 4-foot-tall isolation fencing around the pool as a preventative measure. However, it wasn't entirely baby-proof.
Captured on the Nest camera installed out back, Albert sprung from his chair, ran toward the swimming pool, and made his now-viral leap over the fencing.
“It didn't even cross my mind to go around, it was point A to point B,” Albert told WPTV. "The second you see it, you get Superman strength and just have to go for it."
