The first day of school is emotional for everyone involved.
From a child heading off to school for the first time to a mother dealing with watching her baby head out into the real world, the start of the school year can be a tough thing to handle.
Sometimes, kids are really excited to head out to their first day of school — but other times, they're anxious and scared when it comes to the unknown.
For lots of little kids starting preschool or kindergarten, the prospect of being without Mom or Dad all day is really scary. The people they've known best all their life are now gone most of the day, leaving them scared and alone.
That was the case for little Max Mallett, who was heading off to school for the very first time without his mom, Louise.
But Louise came up with a really creative and cute way to make sure Max felt safe and loved by his mom all day long, even when they were apart.

Louise Mallett, a mom of three from Ipswich, England, was worried about her "littlest baby" Max as he headed off for his first full day of school.

Louise explained that Max had already had a few half days at school, which she called "morning settling in sessions." On Max's first day, he missed his mom so much that he cried.

As Max was heading off to his first full day of school, Louise worried he would be too scared to fully appreciate the day. So, she came up with a creative way to show her baby that she would always be by his side.

Louise wrote on in the Facebook group The Motherload, "'I could tell he was feeling a little emotional this morning so we had a chat and came up with the idea of having a heart each and if we pressed it, it sent a hug to the other one." Louise called these little drawings their "heart buttons."

Louise and Max each drew a heart on their hands. Max even got an extra heart on his arm, just in case the one on his hand wore off. On the way to school, Max and Louise held hands to "charge" their hug buttons.

Louise was worried about Max, but her cute plan worked! When she picked Max up she asked him if he got her hugs, and he said yes!
Louise wrote:
He also said “I pressed it for a long time Mummy but I didn’t cry,” so I said “Ahhhh that will be that big squeeze I got, did you get my big squeeze back?” and he said “yep!”

Louise's heartwarming and creative idea has moved mothers everywhere to tears.

I think this is such a sweet, creative way to help Max be brave at school. It looks like it made things a little easier for Mom and her baby, which is always a plus.
Is this something you'd try with your kids?
