There's no worse pain for a parent than that of losing a child.
This pain is even more debilitating when it happens suddenly. The shock can be just as overwhelming as the pain that follows it.
So when Megan's 6-year-old son Jakob drowned one afternoon, she and her husband were left completely devastated by their loss.
They wanted to do something to memorialize their little boy, and to ensure that they would always have a piece of him with them.
When thinking back on the day, Megan remembered her son pressing his hands against a mirror in the house and leaving his prints on the glass just hours before he lost his life.
The parents then decided the perfect way to pay tribute to Jakob was to get his little handprint tattooed on their bodies.
But in order to get the handprint off of the mirror, they had to enlist the help of Sergeant Ann Sterling of the Largo Police Department. Sterling was able to preserve and prepare the prints to be tattooed on Megan and her husband.
They each got the tattoo, accompanied by the phrase, "Your wings were ready but my heart was not."
Now, a piece of Jakob will always be with each of his parents for the rest of their lives.
