Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet are one of Hollywood's cutest couples. But they've been so low-key that many people might not even realize they're together.
It all started as a simple childhood crush. Jason watched Lisa on The Cosby Show and immediately fell head over heels. But it wasn't until 2005 when they met for the first time. They met up at a jazz club, introduced to each other by a mutual friend. They were together for 12 years before deciding to tie the knot and make it official.
Aside from Jason, Lisa's biggest relationship was with Lenny Kravitz. Together, the two had daughter Zoë Kravitz before officially splitting in 1993. But it seems like she's found her match with Jason. And Jason makes sure to keep the love alive with wonderful surprises for his wife.
Recently, Jason went out of his way to restore one of Lisa's favorite cars. It was her very first — a 1965 Mustang. According to Jason, the project was "14 years in the making."
"I know we can't relive a memory, but maybe we can rebuild one," he says in the video, per People. The car, which started out in bad shape, was taken to Divine 1 Customs in Las Vegas. In the video, Jason tells the employees the full history of the car.
"The story is, this is the first car she ever bought," he said. "It's one of three ever made, and … it has a lot of custom parts to it." Since Lisa was starring on the show between 1984 and 1992, it makes sense that she'd want to splurge a little. Lisa's character of Denise was so popular that she even got a spin-off series, A Different World.
Even though Lisa is still doing well for herself, taking on a car restoration is a serious project. So it makes sense that Jason would want to surprise her by taking it on himself. According to Jason, Lisa had no clue it was happening, making the act even more special.
"To be in this passenger seat with my wife here and surprise her and our babies in the back — riding in her first car when she was 17 — I'm excited to see her face," he said. "It's come a long way, a long way." And, as it turns out, Lisa thought the restoration was perfect.
"It's beautiful. Holy cow," Lisa responded. "That is gorgeous. Oh my gosh. It's pristine, not too flashy but just enough." It's almost as if the car was ready for a new set of adventures. The fact that she's held onto it means it's truly something special to her.
Showing that he's a class act, Jason made sure to thank everyone who was involved with the restoration. "Mahalo to @bigkemdizel for bringing me to @divine1customs to meet Misha, I could not have done this without the love and support they put into this project," he wrote. "Directed by @da_bray , this was Damien's directing debut for our company @on_the_roam this last year and he put this all together to show the amount of love that went into this restoration," he continued. "Thank you to everyone involved and the crew! @ppgrefinish."
He also encouraged fans to check out the full video, after posting just a snippet on Instagram. "As always big Mahalo to @colterwall for the music from Imaginary Appalachia, sleeping on the blacktop & Caroline. Please give the full video a watch on YouTube," he said. Since most productions have been put on hold, it's extra nice to see Jason on screen again.
Jason also knows a lot about cars. He collects both cars and motorcycles and has a lot of memories behind his vehicles. For example, he sold a Land Rover Defender Series 3 to finance one of his projects — something that you don't hear of all too much in Hollywood.
"Funny story about that Defender," he told Men's Journal. "I sold it because I had to [make The Road To Paloma], and I bought it back with the money I earned from Carhartt." He also loves motorcycles and has a custom Vallkree Drifter in his possession.
Harley Davidson also wanted to show the brand's love for Jason by gifting him a Harley Davidson Softail Slim motorcycle while he was filming Aquaman. The company even sent a friend of his out to surprise him with the bike on set. Almost immediately, Jason chose to spray-paint the bike black.
That said, Jason's preferred family car is much like anyone else's. He reportedly drives a white Range Rover, especially when he's with his two young children, Lola and Nakoa-Wolf. But, staying true to character, he's also had a sidecar built for when the kids want to ride a motorcycle with their dad.
It's sweet to know that both Lisa and Jason have a love of cars in common. While Lisa may not be quite as avid a collector, it's endearing to know that her first vehicle had so much meaning. Not many of us still have the car we drove back when we were teenagers.
It's nice to know that even with kids and a typically busy schedule, Jason and Lisa still find great ways to keep their romance alive. Thanks to Jason, Lisa can always remember her early days in Hollywood. It seems like these two are quite the team.
