John David Duggar's family was believed to be on board when he crashed a plane in Tennessee in October 21.
The Humphreys County Sheriff's Office confirmed to People that an accident had occurred on October 29 in Waverly, Tennessee, at 7 p.m. The accident involved "a family from Arkansas" and was piloted by 32-year-old John David Duggar, who called to report the crash.
The 911 dispatcher reported that John David identified a "double engine failure." While there were no injuries reported in the crash, damage to the plane was categorized as "substantial."
John David obtained his pilot's license in 2012, according to The Hollywood Gossip. Duggar patriarch Jim Bob helped John David purchase a plane for the family's use in 2020. It does not seem that is the plane involved in the crash, however.
The plane in the crash was a Piper PA-30 that was registered to Medic Choppers, LLC. It belonged to Medic Corps, a nonprofit organization that deploys aircraft to provide emergency medical care during mass-casualty disasters. John David is currently the director of business for the nonprofit.
John David's wife, Abbie, is also a pilot. She received her student pilot license in August 2020, according to FAA records obtained by People.
Planes were a big part of the couple's engagement. John David popped the question in an airplane hangar, surrounded by planes. They took wedding photos on a tarmac. In August 2019, Abbie announced they were expecting their first child with a photo of them on a plane and holding up a onesie that read, "Baby Passenger on Board."
Though thankfully everyone's OK, the matter is just one of many headline-making incidents that have plagued the family in recent months. It remains to be seen if the couple will continue their love of planes or stay ground-bound for a while.
