Jordan Wooley, a seventh grader from Katy, Texas, is dealing with challenging philosophical issues after an unexpected reprimand from her teacher.
The conflict arose from an assignment passed out to Jordan’s class at West Memorial Junior High School. It was an assignment called “Verifying Factual Claims, Commonplace Assertions, and Opinions,” designed to employ critical thinking skills.
While the assignment looks innocuous from the outside, what happened after Jordan turned her work in is almost as inappropriate — albeit in a different way — as this series of notes a little girl received from her teacher.
In fact, Jordan’s teacher decided to shoehorn a discussion of religion into the assignment, asking students to verify the phrase, “There is a God.” Jordan, who is a devout Christian, almost immediately felt that she was stuck. Eventually, she settled on both “Fact” and “Opinion,” as her answer.
Despite her effort to answer the question correctly, both for her own faith and for the assignment, her answer was marked incorrect. Now, Jordan tells the school district that she feels like her teacher wants her to say that there isn’t any God.
But, like this man who was mocked for his religion while stuck listening to his dentist, Jordan isn’t about to take this slight to her faith sitting down. Instead, she brought her concerns right to the top! Watch her in action below!
