Kate Hudson has a busy life. She's the cofounder of Fabletics, a leading athleisure subscription brand. Kate is also working on a line with New York & Company. She has written two books in as many years. Despite her break in 2018, she's still a working actress.
She gave birth to daughter Rani Rose in early October. That makes her mom to one little girl and two boys. Ryder, her son with ex-husband Chris Robinson, is 15 years old. Bingham, her son with ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy, is 7. With such a full plate, it might be hard for some to focus on what's next. Kate seems to have a pretty clear vision.
On a recent appearance on Today, Kate revealed that she would love to have more children. The 39-year-old acknowledged that she once thought she was done having kids. The birth of her daughter and her fabulous relationship with boyfriend Danny Fujikawa have changed her mind, however. Kate spoke about her desire for a big family during that appearance.
Kate Hudson surprised many with a dual pregnancy announcement/gender reveal on Instagram this past April. "We have been trying to keep this pregnancy under the radar for as long as possible but I’m a poppin now!," Kate wrote in the caption. "And it’s too darn challenging to hide, and frankly hiding is more exhausting then just coming out with it! My kids, Danny, myself and the entire family are crazy excited! A little girl on the way ."
Following a rocky, nauseous first trimester, Kate kept her followers up to date with pictures and commentary on her growing bump.
Kate stayed busy as her bump grew. She continued her work with Fabletics, the athleisure company she cofounded five years ago.
She was almost ready to give birth when she debuted mom Goldie Hawn's collection with Fabletics. You can tell how much fun she was having hanging out with her mom.
She was also spending lots of time with her sons. Kate gave us peeks at quality time with Ryder and Bingham before the family added a little girl to the mix.
Rani Rose Hudson Fujikawa was born on October 2, 2018. It was easy to see that the new parents were instantly smitten with the little girl.
Rani just turned 3 months old. Kate discussed what this stage of being a mom has been like for her during her appearance on Today. She said, "We were just talking before we were airing, I’m in the breastfeeding constantly now and I’m trying to figure out how to balance the breastfeeding and the work, which is always a mother’s [challenge]."
She also discussed what it's like simultaneously parenting a newborn and a 15-year-old. "Fifteen years and a newborn is really quite amazing to watch. It’s like, a completely different generation," Kate explained. "My son looked at me and he goes, 'Mom, when I’m 30, she’s going to be just turning 16.' But that’s wild that I’ll have a 30-year-old kid and a child in high school."
Kate was asked what's different between her first go at motherhood and her third. "I’m definitely more responsible. I’m definitely a better parent. I’m not messing up Rani as much as I messed up Ryder," the actress joked.
Really, the differences lie in where Kate is in her life now as opposed to then. "You know, Ryder and I had this 7 years of like, nomad, gypsy life," she said. "It was amazing. He was attached to my hip, we traveled the world and he came everywhere with me and I was shooting movies. And then you add another one into the mix and it just becomes a little bit more challenging. I tried to do that and I realized I had to kind of hunker down at home a little bit more. Now I have a really good balance."
The balance appears to be so good that Kate's open to having more babies. "I always thought I’d have four to six kids. That was like, when I was really little, I thought that," she explained. "When you come from a big family… you either don’t want kids or you want a lot of kids. So I always thought I’d have [more kids]."
While she once thought she might cap out at two, she feels differently now. "At one point I was like, 'Oh, maybe I’m done,'" she said. "And then I met Danny and was like, 'Alright, I got to pump them out for him.'"
She's got her eye on a little boy, in fact. "He needs a boy. He needs his own boy," she mused.
In the meantime, Kate's focusing on getting back into a healthy place, body and mind. Her body will be at its best if she decides to give pregnancy another go.
