Fans of the royal family welcome any opportunity to get a glimpse at the littlest royals. The past few weeks have been filled with warm wishes and congratulations for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who just welcomed their first child. While the world was waiting to get a first glimpse at little Archie Harrison, Kate Middleton was working on a project of her own involving kids.
The Duchess of Cambridge teamed up with designers Andrée Davies and Adam White to create a garden for the annual Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Chelsea Flower Show. The garden's theme is "Back to Nature." It is part of Kate's continuing campaign for children and families to get in touch with the great outdoors. Kate was an art history major during her time at university, so this project has combined quite a few of her passions.
The family even recently released sweet new photos of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis enjoying the show garden ahead of its unveiling!
Kate Middleton has been busy at work on a project that combines many of her talents. The Duchess of Cambridge has spent months working on a showpiece creation for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
Kate worked with designers Andrée Davies and Adam White to create the "Back to Nature" themed garden. The garden is aimed at bringing families back to appreciating and relaxing in their natural surroundings.
The garden's theme speaks to one of Kate's biggest royal causes. She has long championed giving children the best in early childhood as a means of providing them with a head start on their physical and mental health.
The woodland-themed garden features stepping stones, hollow logs, swings, and a stream. In photos of the garden released Sunday, Kate explained why these elements are important to her bigger picture:
"In recent years I have focused much of my work on the early years, and how instrumental they are for outcomes later in life. I believe that spending time outdoors when we are young can play a role in laying the foundations for children to become happy, healthy adults."
The new photos show Kate and William enjoying the beautiful garden space with their children. It's one of the more intimate looks at the family that we've seen since the birth of Prince Louis last April.
In an interview with reporters, Kate explained her hopes for how the woodland space would impact others.
"I really feel that nature, being interactive outdoors has huge benefits on physical and mental well-being particularly for young kiddies," she said. "I really hope that this woodland that we have created really inspires families, kids and communities to get outside, enjoy nature and the outdoors, and spend quality time together."
The photos of her children that Kate chose to release are simply adorable. We get a chance to see George and Charlotte dipping their toes in the stream, while Louis gets a push from William on a rope swing.
The children even had a bit of a hand in the creation of the garden. They helped pick moss, twigs, and sticks of hazel that created a den that mirrors the one they spend time in at their country home at Anmer Hall.
Though their visit lasted just 45 minutes, the little ones made the most of their time there. Charlotte and George even climbed up into the treehouse.
The garden even has a nod to the late Princess Diana. Kate chose forget-me-nots, Diana's favorite flower, for the woodland floor.
After her own children got a chance to romp around the woodland garden, she gave local schoolchildren a chance. Kate spent her Monday making reed boats and toasting marshmallows with the group of children.
Kate wore culottes and Superga sneakers for the outing. It was the perfect active outfit, albeit a bit daring for its inclusion of a white blouse while getting down and dirty outdoors!
William and Queen Elizabeth will also join Kate later for a look at the garden. Other members of the royal family will reportedly attend the event as well, although it's unclear which members that will be.
Kate has a lot to be proud of, and this may be just the beginning.
According to People, Kate will work with her team on a garden for the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, a permanent garden at RHS Wisley in Surrey, and another unnamed garden.
