For Katrina Compton, 2016 was not the best year. She and her family had dealt with multiple hardships and tragedies, more than some people experience in a lifetime, all within one year.
Despite the unfortunate events that unfolded, Katrina always found a way to keep positive and move on.
When she took her daughter, Mila, to a regular checkup, her doctor said her liver felt enlarged. Her baby was soon diagnosed with Biliary Atresia, a rare disease of the liver that occurs in infants.
It was imperative that Mila receive a new liver to ensure a healthy future. The doctors didn't have the best outlook for Katrina's little girl.
Thankfully, Mila was given the transplant she needed to survive and her health improved vastly. Unfortunately, that wasn't the end of the Compton family's bad luck.
While Katrina was in labor with her youngest, a baby boy, she felt ill and almost died due to complications. To make matters even worse, Katrina's mother passed away during her hospital stay.
Katrina was dealing with all of this devastation, in addition to the pressure of her husband losing and searching for a new job. Through it all, her heart was broken, but she as a person was not.
In the video below, posted on February 4th, 2017, Katrina's aunt, Gina, says, "She just keeps doing what she has to do to take care of her babies."
Trying to pt her troubles in the past in order to move on, Katrina says, "I just kind of write 2016 off as a horrible year."
Suddenly, there is a knock at the door that ultimately changes Katrina's day and her life moving forward.
