Kelly Clarkson Files For Divorce From Brandon Blackstock After 7 Years Of Marriage

Kelly Clarkson has filed for divorce from her husband of seven years, Brandon Blackstock. Kelly and Brandon have two children together: 5-year-old River Rose and 4-year-old Remington Alexander. Kelly reportedly filed for divorce on June 4, and the two put their $10 million Los Angeles home on the market last month.

Details of the divorce have not been released, and Kelly has yet to issue any kind of official statement. She and Brandon got married in 2013, after announcing their engagement in December 2012. It's believed that the family had been social distancing together at a second home in Montana.

Kelly has been very chatty about her husband throughout the years. Brandon is also her manager, and in 2018 she spoke to Marie Claire about what that was like.

"Well, I think it comes down to respect. I wouldn't have hired Brandon to be my manager if I didn't see first-hand how great he is at that and how much he cares about Blake [Shelton]. And the way that [Blake's] career has blown up, I would have hired Brandon regardless."

She continued, "He's really talented at what he does and his mind really does work in a completely different way. I'm always like 'is this your manager hat?' And he'll go 'oh, is this your artist hat? Are we going there? [laughs]' So, we're pretty good about that. I mean, we just have the regular marriage, kids thing, to where it's like 'I am not putting them to bed, you are.'"

The two actually met through Brandon's father, Narvel Blackstock, who used to be Kelly's manager. Kelly and Brandon went way back, but Brandon was married to his ex-wife. "Brandon is my manager's son. I've known him for six years, but he was married for most of that time. Then, suddenly, there he was at the Super Bowl and he was single … "

Kelly was at the Super Bowl to sing the national anthem, and one thing just led to another. Kelly shared that their similar work ethics made their relationship work. "He works as crazy-hard as me, if not harder and so doesn't get in a mood if I can't always call when I say I will."

Brandon proposed to Kelly about 10 months after they started dating. Kelly updated her Twitter feed the night it happened. "I'M ENGAGED!!!!! I wanted y'all to know!! Happiest night of my life last night! I am so lucky and am with the greatest man ever :)."

In 2013, Kelly told Cosmopolitan that Brandon was "the one."

The two totally changed their 2013 wedding plans on a whim. "We had this big plan and then we just took our kids and then got married with this person we didn't even know — but it was the most amazing thing — under a little barn on a river. It was so beautiful!"

River Rose was born on June 12, 2014, and Remington made his debut on April 12, 2016. Kelly was also a stepmom to Brandon's children from his first marriage, Savannah and Seth Blackstock. She told Ryan Seacrest that watching Brandon parent his children made her realize how much their children would be loved.

"Watching my husband love on his daughter all the time, you know, go to her events and just be there and, like, be present is, like, hard to watch but beautiful to watch. I know that my kids are going to have that."

And while Kelly loves the children she has, she told People in 2017 that she didn't plan to have any more. "Oh God, those tubes are gone! That's blasphemy. We don't even speak of it. We're both fixed in our own ways, yet still we'll probably get pregnant again somehow."

Kelly also shared a lot more details about her marriage when she was on the cover of Redbook in December 2018: "To keep it family appropriate, let's say we're just a lot more active than other couples. I'm a person who loves change. He loves spontaneity. Having a set time or place [to have sex] would be boring to us. I had never found someone I was truly passionate about, who I wanted to stay in bed with all day. The fact that I did, well … I was going to latch on and take advantage of that."

Kelly and Brandon have also been visibly supportive of one another in their professional and creative efforts, so it doesn't seem very likely that they're divorcing for that reason. It could be that the two have simply grown apart, or they both feel they have growing that needs to be done separately.

In 2018, Kelly spoke at length about taking over her own career and her life. "In my whole career for like for 16 years now, they're trying to get you to do stuff they think is going to win and I'm like look, if my ship sinks, that's totally fine, but I want to be the one at the helm. I want to be the one steering the boat.

"It's cool if it sinks and it doesn't work out, but I don't want it to sink [with] me relying and thinking somebody else is going to make something happen for me and compromise to a point to where it's not me. You only get one life, right? Or that we know. And if we're going to be back, I'd better be a man cause this female stuff is hard [laughs]."
