Kelly Clarkson juggles so much, and as a single mom, it takes its toll.
Kelly opened up about what it was like to celebrate Mother's Day at the American Song Contest finale. It's Kelly's second Mother's Day as a single mom after her divorce from Brandon Blackstock. Kelly works a lot, and every moment she isn't working, she's with 7-year-old daughter River Rose and 6-year-old son Remington Alexander.
Kelly revealed that the most thoughtful Mother's Day gift she received was from her nanny. Her nanny knew just what Kelly needed — a moment to herself.
Kelly's most meaningful Mother's Day gift came from her nanny, as she revealed in a conversation with American Song Contest cohost Snoop Dogg on Extra. The conversation started with Snoop Dogg revealing what he did to celebrate his wife this year.
"I gave my missus a Woman's Day party where it was all mothers and no mens was there," he said.
"It was all for her and her girls and that's what you do, get out the way and let 'em have some fun."
Kelly agreed and shared her surprisingly emotional story.
"I'm a single mom, right? So I'm either at work or with kids," she shared.
"So my nanny — I literally almost cried — like, she walked into the kitchen and was like, 'Hey, for Mother's Day, I'm going to give you the gift of time and you can just do whatever you want.'"
"I almost broke down," Kelly revealed.
"I was like, 'What??!!'"
"No one understands how important time is," Snoop responded to her story.
Kelly agreed: "I had the best day, and it was amazing."
Although she's never shied away from how hard being a mom is, especially now as a single mom, Kelly has also celebrated all the beauty of being a parent and the joy it's bought her.
"It is such an awesome experience being a parent," she said at a 2020 virtual event.
"I know it can be overwhelming, but it is so amazing. You aren't just molding their little lives, it's changing you in the process too."
Kelly also advocated for moms to give themselves and each other a little bit of the grace that society at large often does not.
"Whether you are a working mom or a stay at home mom, let yourself off the hook," she said.
"You are still getting it done, you are still productive. It's just working through time management as a new mom … There are moments when you will want to cry so hard — and that's OK! But just try to laugh and let it go."
