Kelly Rowland has made quite a career for herself after Destiny's Child. The singer still has quite a big fan base, and she's still hard at work. These days, she's focusing a bit more on her acting career, which has also taken off. Recently, the star was featured in the Lifetime film Merry Liddle Christmas Wedding.
But she's also been busy expanding her family. During an interview with Women's Health, which happened through Zoom, Kelly revealed a baby bump. Supposedly, the idea to have a second child happened because of the chaos of 2020. Kelly and her husband, Tim Weatherspoon, had briefly considered the possibility of a second. But with everyone on lockdown, it just made a lot of sense to go for it.
"Being able to have a child … I'm knocking at 40's door in February," she told the publication. "Taking care of myself means a lot to me."
Of course, in making the announcement, Kelly also thought of her fans. "I was thinking, Oh my god, my fans are gonna be so disappointed," she said. "They wanted an album first, but they got a baby! And I was like, 'I have to figure this out so they get both.'"
The star, who's also a partner with Fabletics, gave birth to baby Noah Jon on January 21. She and her husband also share a son named Titan, who's 6. Kelly noted the importance of the number 21 in her Instagram announcement, stating "On the 21st day, of the 21st year, of the 21st Century, Noah Jon Weatherspoon greeted us."
As People magazine reports, it was actually Titan who gave Noah his name. "Titan already named the baby. He knows what he's having and he is excited," Kelly said. "But when the baby's here, that's when you're really gonna know what the deal is, because he's used to all the attention."
When Titan was born, it was Tim who reportedly thought up his name. "The dad picked out the name. It has to do with family," Kelly said to People years back. So in a way, it's extra sweet that it was Titan who had input this time around.
While it would make sense for Kelly to slow down, it seems as if her career is in the best place possible. Aside from her Lifetime movie, 2020 also saw Kelly appear in episodes of L.A.'s Finest and Boomerang. And even though she hasn't had a new album in quite some time, it's still on the horizon.
Kelly's husband hasn't been in the spotlight as much as Kelly. But from what fans know of him, they can tell the two are deeply in love. Kelly and Tim got married privately in 2014 in Costa Rica. His proposal was actually quite interesting.
Kelly admits that she was actually in Bulgaria when the moment happened. "He asked me first on Skype," she said, per E! "I was like, 'We're so far away from each other.'"
While keeping some elements of her wedding and engagement a secret for some time, Kelly had no trouble opening up about her sex life with her husband back in 2020. "As far as sex is concerned, I'm like, 'Well, if I have to play dress up and do role-play, honey, if I need to be Alicia tonight and give you a surprise in the middle of the night or something then it needs to happen," she told People.
"We spice things up a bit and keep it fun," she continued. "When we met each other, we had fun. Two years from now, we'll have fun. I think if you hold that close to you, it can always show itself in your relationship." It seems as if she has a very healthy perspective.
"It's really about owning your sexuality," Kelly concluded. "You should already know how sexy and great you are without someone having to tell you. As women, for so long we'd do something to be regarded by others and this song says, 'I really don’t need to hear what anyone else has to say.'"
Kelly is also a great role model as she's a big fan of self-care. She knows the importance of putting herself first sometimes. And as a mom, that's very important. Many times, working moms — especially ones as busy as Kelly — don't prioritize their mental health.
"I have a therapist that I call if there is something that I can't quite figure out on my own, or something that might be overwhelming to me," she told HelloGiggles back in 2017. "I have no problem talking about that at all, because I just want to figure it out. I want to know what's going on."
"The first time somebody told me about a therapist, I was around someone else, and they made that other person feel ashamed for even talking about it," she continued. "And when I understood what a therapist does and I actually took my first visit, I came out of there feeling like I was on top of the world." Keeping up with those appointments is also a great way for her to be the best mother she can be.
It seems as if Kelly Rowland has everything in order. She's got a wonderful family with a brand-new addition, a loving and supportive husband, and a career that's more impressive than ever. She's a great role model for women and other mothers, and she seems to know what she wants out of life — both in her career and as an individual.
