Destiny’s Child Singer Kelly Rowland Happily Announces She’s Pregnant With Her Second Baby At 39

Kelly Rowland is getting real about parenting and pregnancy during a world health crisis.

Kelly shared the exciting news that she's expecting her second child in a cover story for Women's Health. She and husband Tim Weatherspoon are parents to 5-year-old Titan.

The soulful, sexy singer opened up about her decision to try to get pregnant earlier this year. With so much time at home, she and Tim decided to give it a go. They were completely shocked when it worked right away.

Kelly found it difficult to release the joyful news into a world in chaos. With everything from the virus to the racial reckoning going on in the country, she was concerned about how it would be received.

Still, Kelly wanted to celebrate life. In this interview discussing her pregnancy, parenting, and latest professional endeavors, she achieves just that. As always, she looks incredible while doing so.

Kelly Rowland is pregnant! The 39-year-old singer is expecting her second child with her husband, Tim Weatherspoon. Their new addition will join their 5-year-old son, Titan.

Kelly shared the news as part of her cover story for Women's Health.

"We had been talking about it loosely, and then [the global health crisis] happened, and we were just like, 'Let's see what happens,'" Kelly told the magazine of the decision to add to the family.

Kelly got pregnant almost immediately, to her and Tim's surprise. She was elated but hesitant to share the news with such a turbulent world.

Even as she revealed the news in the interview, she wasn't sure about it.

"But you still want to remind people that life is important," she said.

"And being able to have a child … I'm knocking at 40's door in February. Taking care of myself means a lot to me."

She worried about disappointing her fans, who are eagerly awaiting new music.

"I was thinking, Oh my god, my fans are gonna be so disappointed … They wanted an album first, but they got a baby!" she shared.

"And I was like, 'I have to figure this out so they get both.'"

Kelly's got a packed schedule to begin with. Parenting and taking on her many projects fill the hours of her days quickly. Making time for Titan is of paramount importance to her.

"When he's ready to play, it's very real," Kelly noted.

Titan's into prehistoric beasts these days, so it's not unusual for Kelly to find herself in a dinosaur get-up.

"I could have a whole dinosaur head on, and paws — not paws, but you know … hands? Whatever!"

Those cherished moments are what make her days.

She was also devoting a lot of time to staying in shape before this pregnancy. Her May bathing suit selfie filled many a person with ab-envy. It wasn't long after she discovered she was pregnant that an "overwhelming sense of exhaustion hit."

Kelly could immediately tell the differences between this pregnancy and her first one six years prior.

"I swam, I did yoga, I did weights, I jogged and walked," she said of her pregnancy with Titan. She credits her ability to stay active with his easy delivery.

Right now, she's slowing down, primarily focused on yoga, walking, and stretching until her body feels ready for something more.

Kelly's also taking time for self-care, something she made a habit of after the emotional resurgance of racial upset in our country this summer over the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.

"I'd just put Titan to bed," she recalled.

"I got into the shower, and I had this real hard, ugly, deep cry. Because I promised to protect my kid. That was the main thing I was thinking about: protecting this little innocence."

Kelly carefully monitors what her son is seeing. She wants him to be exposed to educational resources, like the Sesame Street town hall on racism. She wants to protect him from the trauma that is seeing Black lives lost on television news over and over again.

She's also limited her own exposure. "The scroll factor is dangerous, and you really wanna protect your gates," she noted.

As she's finishing those final months before her 40s begin, Kelly is hoping her music speaks to a time in her life where she's learning about herself. It's been just about two years since Kelly made the decision to meet her biological father for the first time, for example.

"I'm learning so much about myself, and the things that I missed," she shared.

"You say, 'I'm fine, I'm fine' — and yeah, I'm fine — but there are things I would have liked to have experienced from a father," she continued.

The music helps her process all the learning she's done. "I like to touch on everything. I want it to feel very organic, coming from me."
