Wendy Jackson brought her twins to a restaurant for dinner at Razzoo's. One of them, Justin, happens have special needs and has autism. After the family ate their food, the manager of the restaurant asked to speak with the mother.
Customers complained to the manager about Justin's behavior. They believe they saw him lick the top of a hot sauce bottle. It wasn't that the manager decided to speak with Jackson — it was what she said that left the mother distraught.
"[The manager] said that 'his kind' was not allowed in that restaurant. And I said, 'His kind? What do you mean? Special needs kind?' And she said, 'Whatever. You and him… out!'" Jackson tells WFAA.
Jackson quickly apologized to the manager, offered to pay for the cost of the bottle of hot sauce, and kindly asked if they could continue their meal. The manager didn't want to hear it.
"My eyes were filling with tears, because now people were watching," she says. "We were literally kicked out as we were waiting for our check at Razzoo's."
After the incident, the CEO Jeff Powell declined to comment but said the restaurant welcomes all people.
"This is not typical," Jackson says. "We plan to go back, but [the manager] needs — obviously — some sensitivity training."
Jackson said it best, we could all stand to be a little more sensitive and empathetic toward each other, especially if we don't understand someone else's situation.
